Saturday morning

I'm so excited to have a wave of cooler weather blowing through SE Michigan - it feels like an early autumn morning for sure.  This has been my favorite time of year for as long as I can remember; I loved going back to school to see friends missed over the summer (with all kinds of new school supplies and new school clothes!), my birthday is in October and Halloween follows right behind.  At that point, it's almost no time to Thanksgiving and Christmas.

But, I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here.  Yesterday was a long day at the hospital starting at 9:30 with having something called a power port installed (it's basically a permanent IV line) for the chemo that starts on Tuesday.  Then at noon I had more fluid drained (almost 4 liters and this was only since Monday) and then finally a CAT scan.  Got home mid-afternoon and took a monster nap which lasted until about 8:30(!).

This weekend will be nice and relaxing.  We'll play some games with mom, take naps, play with the dogs and nosh like royalty on the amazing Zingerman's trays that Tom dropped off (sorry I missed you - see note about monster nap above  :) ).  One of the highlight from this past week was finally getting to meet Arthur (Artie) who is Emily & Tom's super cute puppy.  The play date was fun for us though the the dogs didn't exactly play.  Felix doesn't care about playing with other dogs that much and Carl is still trying to figure out how that would even work.  I'm confident that Carl will get it eventually, he just needs a canine mentor to show him how.  Felix, well, there's a reason his nickname is "The Asshole".  Love him but he can be a challenge when it comes to interacting with other dogs.

Have a nice weekend everyone and don't forget to have a martini for me if the occasion should arise.  :)

  1. Glad everything went well with your Power Port. Yes, it should be capitalized b/c it sounds like a superhero device! I'm sure Carl had a great time with Artie....Carl says Felix who? I hope you have a great holiday weekend. Look for my Dragoncon parade photos on FB soon...I'll be the goofy looking one.
    Love, Jenny

  2. Oh no! Felix is The Asshole? But Felix is the only one who will actually sit on my lap and let me pet him. Carl always just sits there and glares at me suspiciously.

  3. Yeah, Felix loves "the lap" but once you've seen him out in public you get to see what an asshole he can be... I was surprised cuz he's snuggled sweetly in my lap many a time, too. :)
Hugs and kisses to you David. Your ability to remain true to yourself in such difficult circumstances is actually comforting to me. Go figure! I thought I was the one who was supposed to be comforting here :) I love you.

  4. Well, DAVID(s) - Debbie and I had a Martini (or two) in your honor on Friday in Syracuse, the night before we went to the NYS Fair and the Rascal Flatts Concert. You two were a topic of conversation while we drank them too. You both are in our thoughts and prayers, and we're wishing you well on your upcoming treatments.
Stay strong, both of you - we're anxious to travel to Michigan for your Sapphire Martinis and have them with you.
In the mean time, we might switch to DIET COKE for a while, since we've been honoring your Martini request so often........just kidding, it's a Dirty (Martini) job, but somebody's got to do it !! Debbie came up with that one. Gotta love her. ; )
All the Best - talk soon.

  5. Sending all my aloha from Hawaii to you both. Great to see photos of you on here because it's been awhile since we've seen one another. I think it was Yasu and Renee's wedding. I want you to know that since Renee called me to let me know what was going on that I have been thinking about you both and wishing you all the best love in the world. I have been off the radar whilst traveling and am just now getting back into the groove of things. You should know that you are always welcome to come out to Hawaii whenever you like to stay with us. I'll be checking in via the blog.
    Much love and aloha,
    Matthew
