Well, the sewer line issue is resolved and we can flush the toilet as much as we want (not to mention take showers, do laundry etc.). The front yard is now one gigantic dirt patch (soon to be a gigantic mud patch!) and with the exception of a few periphery shrubs, has nothing left. Planter boxes I built? Destroyed. Lovely lilacs? One of three left. All the bulbs planted in the fall? Who knows - many are likely buried way too deep to survive and the others will be popping up randomly. Astilbe might come back, the dwarf burning bush is OK (otherwise where would we burn dwarfs?) and the yucca is largely fine. We are trying to be zen about it.
Health-wise I was feeling well enough to finally take down the christmas decorations this morning. Chemo yesterday was fine though I wasn't feeling great prior to that. I can't believe it's already Wednesday.
Most of you probably know that Borders had more home office layoffs this week. Dave is still employed (though he would not have been particularly upset to be let go) though a couple of our friends cannot say the same thing. It's sad because, for many years, Borders was a great company to work for and now it's just a shell of its former self.
Anyway, I'm off to take a nap. Thanks for reading and, as always, feel free to leave a comment! :)
I was so sorry to hear about the sewer line problem, but it (almost) makes me feel better about having a septic tank (I know! How 20th century!) here. I'll keep my fingers crossed that more bulbs come up than you expect. Glad to hear about the scan results and thinking of you. Celia
ReplyDeletePoor yard. If you need another lilac, the neighbors behind us have a beautiful one. ;) Who knows, you might be in for a random, lovely surprise with the bulbs. And maybe you'll want to put some kind of vegetable garden in the front! The possibilities are endless. Take care & see you soon-

Super suck! But at least you get to flush and wash at will :)
ReplyDeleteAnd don't worry Dave, I'm sure you'll be out of a job soon enough... that company can't go on too much longer! hahaha
Take care guys!! Hope to see you soon.
as in all seasonal changes, something grown goes away, something new comes to take its place. maybe the bulbs just needed a little extra space to strut their blooms, you know, shake and shimmy with the petals and stamens. at least with a swath of mud that large you'll be able to provide a venue for the upcoming mud wrestling championships of outer Ypsilanti. Renee and i would gladly fly out to represent the west coast in our bikini and banana hammock. just say the word... all kinds of crazy love. y & R
ReplyDeleteIt was really nice seeing both of you on Monday. David I'm happy to hear you had good CT news and that you feel well enough to do things around the house. I myself only started de-decorating the tree yesterday. Christmas will be gone by the end of the week. The tree is the hardest part, I do love gazing at it at night with all other lights out.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame about the front garden, you guys put a lot of thought and work into it. Though now it is Potential again. Let us know if/when you need help with the redo project.
Random bulbs popping up might be a fun surprise. I randomly put grape Hyacinths through out our and my sister's front yards. I never remember where they are going to show up. They are very happy.
Thank you for blogging,
:)Karen
Sewer lines suck! Our town is replacing all the really old sewer lines in the streets, which is great, but it means blocks at a time a ripped up and in the residential areas, homeowners have to pay to place the line from the house to the new line. I think that we get the special privilege of doing this this summer (all the blocks around us have been done). Glad to hear there is no new tumor growth and glad to hear the doctor tell you to work out! Very impressed that Dave still has a job. The downtown Portland store just closed and I went and bought some fixtures and library carts. It was bittersweet being there with some other GMs and talking about ye olden days. Sigh.
